We went to the doctor's today for our weekly appointment. Things started out normally - then when the doctor did the internal exam - she told me that she was able to dilate me to 1 cm - which I was happy about. Then she looked funny - and I knew right away what the problem was. She asked me to get dressed and we went into another exam room where the sonogram machine is. We went in and sure enough this little gremlin has turned itself around in less than a week. Now the baby is in the breech position. How this baby has turned itself around during this last week of the pregnancy when there is not a lot of room to begin with is beyond us. Needless to say - I was just devastated and as soon as we go outside the doctor's office I broke down and cried for a long time. It's just not the way I pictured this delivery - and it is everything that I did not want to happen.
So what's the plan? We are going in on Tuesday Nov 25th for a planned c-section. Before the c-section the two doctors are going to try to externally rotate the baby (if he/she is still breech - which if he/she turned around once on its own so late in pregnancy- maybe it could happen again). If the rotation is successful - then they are going to induce the labor. If the rotation is not successful - I will be headed to the OR for a c-section. Either way - the baby is coming on Tuesday which is good news. Now we are not just waiting for he/she to make its entrance. It's just difficult for us because this is not what we had planned - at all and it is everything I have been wanting to avoid this entire pregnancy - a c-section and epidural. So I am going to have to now wrap my brain around this new plan and be okay with the outcome.
Either way we will get to meet our baby soon and the baby will be healthy - which of course is the most important thing.
