Baby pool winner!

Hi everyone. I'm sure you're all wondering who won the official baby pool. I am happy to announce that one of you guessed the Gender, Weight and Length exactly right. Congratulations to Sorin! You are the winner. He was wrong on the date, but 3 out of 4 ain't bad. A few of you did guess the correct date of November 25, but Matt gets honorable mention for the closest time without going over. You can check out everyone's guess on the Expectnet Baby Pool link on the far left of this page. Thanks for playing!

Welcome Emma Claire

Hi, it's Bryan aka Daddy. It's a girl! Emma Claire Roy entered the world on November 25, 2008 at 8:46 AM. She weighed 8 lbs. 8 oz. and was 22" long. There is a lot more to say (and more pictures) but I just got home from the hospital and am exhausted at the moment. But also I am so excited and proud! Below are just a few of Emma's pictures. Please keep checking

Final Belly Pics - Week 40

We woke up at 5:00 AM to get ready to go to the hospital. Before we left, we were able to take some final pictures of mommy's belly and daddy's "belly" in his Daddy to Bee shirt:

We Have An Appointment...

On Tuesday November 25th Bryan and I will be heading to the hospital to have this baby. We are scheduled to attempt the version (where the doctors externally attempt to rotate the baby - if he/she is still breech) at 6:30 am. And if that is successful, they will induce labor.

If the version is not successful, I will be headed to the OR for a c-section at 7:30 am. We will post pictures and the birth story as soon as possible. Let's hope the little guy/girl flips on his/her own!

News in Week 39...

We went to the doctor's today for our weekly appointment. Things started out normally - then when the doctor did the internal exam - she told me that she was able to dilate me to 1 cm - which I was happy about. Then she looked funny - and I knew right away what the problem was. She asked me to get dressed and we went into another exam room where the sonogram machine is. We went in and sure enough this little gremlin has turned itself around in less than a week. Now the baby is in the breech position. How this baby has turned itself around during this last week of the pregnancy when there is not a lot of room to begin with is beyond us. Needless to say - I was just devastated and as soon as we go outside the doctor's office I broke down and cried for a long time. It's just not the way I pictured this delivery - and it is everything that I did not want to happen.

So what's the plan? We are going in on Tuesday Nov 25th for a planned c-section. Before the c-section the two doctors are going to try to externally rotate the baby (if he/she is still breech - which if he/she turned around once on its own so late in pregnancy- maybe it could happen again). If the rotation is successful - then they are going to induce the labor. If the rotation is not successful - I will be headed to the OR for a c-section. Either way - the baby is coming on Tuesday which is good news. Now we are not just waiting for he/she to make its entrance. It's just difficult for us because this is not what we had planned - at all and it is everything I have been wanting to avoid this entire pregnancy - a c-section and epidural. So I am going to have to now wrap my brain around this new plan and be okay with the outcome.

Either way we will get to meet our baby soon and the baby will be healthy - which of course is the most important thing.

Another Doctor's Appointment...

Today I had my weekly doctor's appointment and as usual everything is still the same. We have made no progress in another week. I think the doctor senses my disappointment with the news - because she keeps telling me that even though I might not be dilated today - doesn't mean I couldn't go into labor tomorrow. So we will continue to wait for this little baby to decide to join us! The doctor did mention that if nothing happens by the next appointment, then we will schedule an induction - so there is an end in sight!

I am currently nearing the end of week 38 and I still feel good - just getting a little more tired lately. Check out how big the belly has gotten - perhaps we should have waited to paint the pumpkin! If this baby makes us wait any longer, we may just be able to paint a turkey on the belly!!

We have also accomplished a few of the baby tasks - Bryan installed the car seat today. And most importantly - the nursery is done. Grandma came down for another working weekend and we put together the finishing touches. We are waiting to add some decorations because we'd like to see if the baby is a girl or a boy. But check out these pictures - and Bryan's handy work with his new miter saw.

Can We Move To A Table?

Well week 38 is almost half over and no sign that this baby has decided to join us any time soon. I think it might be in there for the long haul! This weekend with the help of Grandma we finished putting together the nursery. We just have to put the finishing touches on it all - but the major things are done. Thursday we go to the doctor's so we shall see what she has to say then - keep your fingers crossed for some progress!

Today something embarrassing happened. Bryan and I went out to eat after we purchased the crib mattress. The host sat us in a two person booth. I sat down and I couldn't fit. Well, if I wanted to squish my belly against the table, I suppose we could have stayed - but I didn't see how it was going to be comfortable. So I had to ask the host if we could move to a table because "I'm pregnant and can't fit in this booth." How embarrassing!!! Bryan kept trying to make me feel better by telling me that it's was a small booth to begin with. Oh my - the joys of being pregnant!

No News...

Another doctor's appointment today - however there is no new news to report. Which initially I was not thrilled about - but as the doctor reminded me - just because I am not dilated at all today doesn't mean that I couldn't have the baby tomorrow. Something my students would be thrilled about - as some of them ask me almost daily "when are you leaving?" like they are planning a party for that moment! I am quick to remind them - that I will be coming back this year so the party can't last for long.

Bryan and I have gotten some more things together for this little one. We built the bassinet, the swing and vibrating seat. This weekend Grandma is coming down again to help put the finishing touches on the baby's room - and then we can build the crib. We should also think about putting the car seat in the car..hmm...maybe it's a good thing we have some more time!
