Emma at 23 months and Halloween 2010

On October 25th Emma celebrated her 23rd month birthday - I cannot believe that in a month she will be two already! Bryan took pictures while I was at the hospital having a NST done - checking the baby's heart rate and everything looked great.

Emma had a Halloween Parade on October 29th. She was not at all interested in saying hello to us or smiling for the camera. She was very serious about holding Ava's hand and participating in the parade.

Bryan took Emma trick or treating on Halloween as I was quite sick. He took some pictures before and videos (you can find them on Youtube). Emma loved her costume and all the treats she collected!

Today we went back to Highland Orchards with Grandma and Grandpa. Emma fed the goats and helped pick some apples!

On Sat October 16, 2010 - We took Emma to the Philadelphia Zoo for the very first time. It was Boo at the Zoo, so Emma wore her butterfly costume. Grandma and Grandpa joined us! Emma had a great time seeing all the animals that we talk about all the time. She was afraid of the giant turtle but otherwise enjoyed her trip to the zoo. She even got to ride a camel with Daddy!

We took some pictures to mark 32 weeks. Not much has changed - the swelling in my feet has gone down and the doctor thought the baby was breech last week. Not a surprise!

Today we had breakfast at Lisa and Mike's new home. It was delicious! Emma got to play with Tristan and Lily. Tiff and I even took a pregnant mommy picture! Tiff is due on Nov. 7th with her second!

Fall Fest 2010

Today we went to Fall Fest in Spring City with the Feights. Emma loved the goats, turkey, cows and the horses. We went on a tractor ride, checked out the fire truck, picked some pumpkins and even went in a bounce house! No pictures with the pumpkins however - there were bugs!

Emma - 22 Months Old

On Sat September 25th Emma attended her very first wedding in Jamestown, NY. She wore a beautiful blue dress and danced the night away. We couldn't keep her off the dance floor! She also turned 22 months old. We tried to get her to stay still for some pictures - here's the best of what we were able to take!

Apple Picking 2010

Today we went to Highland Orchards to go apple picking. Emma first saw the many goats and the donkey. She loved feeding the goats hay and crackers. We took some videos of her feeding the goats - they are on our YouTube page. Then we went out on a tractor ride to the apple trees, where Emma helped Bryan pick the highest apples. She also munched on a few before we called it a day. Hopefully she continues to love apples because we have a ton!

Fetal Cardiologist

Today we had our appointment at Lehigh Valley Hospital with the fetal cardiologist. After waiting for what felt like forever, we got started. The tech was in serious business mode and was taking all types of measurements. They looked at all chambers of the heart, valves and major arteries and veins surrounding the heart. At one point, the tech said to the doctor "Oh here it is" and took some measurement. However after some more looking around - they told us that they do not see anything major. They are unable to see very small openings - so the baby may still have a VSD but they did not detect anything today. So the next step is to wait until the baby is born and check for a murmur. I guess that's not much more information then what we had three weeks ago. Nonetheless, I feel a little better about the whole thing. Now I am anxious and want December to get here quickly so the baby gets a clean bill of health. And once again we did not get any pictures! I think at one point the baby had his/her hand in his/her mouth.

Today Emma turned 21 months old. It's hard to believe that she is so big already. She weighed 27.6 pounds the other day at the doctor's office. We took some pictures and videos to mark the occasion. Emma really cheesed it up for the camera today! Enjoy!

Roy Extended Family Gathering - August 14th

At the end of July we took a family vacation to Chatham, MA with Grandma and Grandpa. Aunt Liz, Kevin, Uncle Dan and Ashley joined us the first weekend! Emma went on a boat for the very first time to do some seal watching!

This summer we joined the YMCA near our house. Emma absolutely loves to swim and especially likes the splash pad! Check out the videos on the YouTube page!

Sonogram August 11th

Today we went back to the hospital to have another sonogram done in order to clear the spine since the position of the baby last week made that difficult. After taking a look at the spine, the tech moved on to check the heart. She spent what seemed like forever looking at the heart. And I knew something was not right. When she was done she told me what she thought she might have noticed - a small membranous ventricular septal defect - a hole in the wall that separates the ventricles in the heart.

The doctor came in to take a look and she wasn't sure either. So it looks like later this month we get to see a fetal cardiologist to get a clearer picture. According to the doctor and the tech, the VSD may or may not be there at all but they just want to be super cautious. Unfortunately they didn't give us any more pictures of the baby!

Baby Roy #2 - Week 21

On Monday August 2nd we had our big ultrasound. We spent over an hour getting all the measurements of the baby. Hearing the baby's heartbeat was incredible. The baby is measuring right on track - weighing in at 14 ounces. The arms and legs of the baby measured a week ahead. Not surprising! While the tech was doing the sonogram the baby had the hiccups. And of course the baby was being stubborn - they needed to take some images of the spine and the baby was laying on his/her back and would not budge. So we get to go back on August 11th to try again. We've also scheduled the c-section and filled out the hospital paperwork - yikes, we're going to have two children!!

Emma's A Big Sister!

On March 31st we found out that Emma is becoming a big sister! We are very excited and can't wait to meet this baby. The due date is December 10th. We will not find out the gender of the baby as we did with Emma. We did have a sonogram done on May 24th and will have the big sonogram on August 2nd. I started to feel the baby move during my 17th week and slowly I have been feeling more movements. I thought that I was doing great with not showing as soon as I thought I would and then I popped during the end of my 19th week. Belly pictures will be coming soon!

Did you realize that today is the last day of spring? Where has the time gone? We have a lot of pictures that we did not get around to posting until now. Emma is getting so big and learning so much every day, these might be out of date pretty soon. But here are some of our favorites from April, May and June (so far).

Spring Break 2010

Last week Emma and I enjoyed a wonderful spring break up in Connecticut. Bryan surprised us on Tuesday for my birthday. On Thursday Emma, Grandma and I went into NYC to visit Auntie Liz where we had brunch, went to Central Park and Bloomies!

On Sat Emma had an Easter egg hunt at Grandma and Grandpa's house and enjoyed a lot of time on the swing.

First Easter Egg Hunt

Today we took Emma to a local church for her first Easter Egg Hunt. It was incredible. They had all of these fields for different aged children and every 15 minutes they had an Easter Egg Hunt. But it wasn't really a hunt - more like a free for all as toddlers ran all over the field and picked up as many eggs as possible. You could go back and hunt as many times as you'd like. They said they prepared over 40,000 eggs for the event!

There was also a petting zoo with baby chicks, goats, llama, calf, turkey and rabbits. Emma loved petting the goats and particularly the rabbits. We then went inside one of the buildings where there was so much to do. Emma and I attempted to make a paper plate bunny but considering my crafty level - we were unsuccessful. Then we waited in the longest line ever for a pink flower balloon, during which Emma started to fall asleep. Once she got the balloon she loved it! We had a great time and can't wait to go back next year!

Where has the time gone? I can hardly remember 16 months ago when Emma wasn't even 12 hours old yet. She has become quite the little girl with a big heart and hysterical personality! Every day she surprises us with new words, sounds or comments. She's great at saying "no" in this extremely cute yet whiny sound! She loves to sing and dance, read books, color and lately go to one of our local parks and take a ride on a swing or go down the slide. She is truly becoming a little independent person - and it seems like I just blinked and 16 months went flying by!

We took some pictures today after bath time as she seemed to have quite the lunch, with some of it still in her hair! She loves to smile for the camera now and say "cheese"!

I know it's a little late but it's better late than never. Emma visited the doctor on February 24 and she is now 31.5 inches tall, her weight is 23 lbs 4 oz and her head is 18 3/4 inches. Here are some pictures we took of Emma on her 15 month birthday before bedtime!

Snowstorm Number 2

Philadelphia has officially experienced it's snowiest winter of all time! And so has Emma. It began snowing again on Tuesday Feb 9th and didn't stop until late Wed Feb 10th. Bryan estimates that we got another 20 inches of snow! We bundled Emma up and went outside. Emma loved patting the snow and even tried to eat some of the snow. And of course - we took some pictures!

This morning we woke up to over 14 inches of snow and it kept on coming down until about lunchtime. After Emma's nap and lunch we bundled her up and took her outside in the snow. We are terrible parents - as we didn't get her a sled, so she did take a trip around the yard in our new recycling bin. Gabby loved jumping around in the snow as well!

14 Months Old

On Jan 25th we celebrated Emma's 14 month birthday! She really has become her own little person over the past few months. She's walking so much better than before which has helped reduce the number of times she falls. Emma says a few things: ma-ma, da-da, cup, Emma, more, go, hi, good girl (when she feeds Gabby a treat) and a whole bunch of other stuff that doesn't make sense just yet! She continues to love to dance, watch Sesame Street and Elmo, read books and make a mess! Emma now has 12 teeth as all four of her 1 year molars have come through - she even recently took a trip to the dentist, where she discovered the treasure chest!

Sorry it's been a while since we last posted! Since the last post Emma turned one! I can't believe that she is already a year old. She really has become her own little person. We had a great birthday celebration on Sunday November 22nd. I made her a little Elmo cake to dive into but she was actually quite reserved and didn't seem to know what to do. On her actual birthday Bryan and I gave her some more cake. She really enjoyed playing peek-a-boo with the Elmo paper plate.

At her one year check-up she weighed 21 pounds and was 30 1/4 inches long. Everything checked out just great! She's saying ma-ma and da-da, cup (or what sounds like cup), ga (for Gabby and every other dog) and more. We just got the letter from school that she has met all of the milestones allowing her to move on up into the next room - Young Toddlers! Her teachers tell us that she just explores all day and talks the entire day. She's a vocal little girl for sure!

On Saturday December 5th we went to Varner's Farm in Collegeville to pick out our Christmas tree. Emma loved looking at all the animals including the goats and horses. It was so hard to get her to look at the camera because she is so interested in the world around her. While the field was full of trees, we couldn't find the perfect tree. But Emma and Bryan did pose for a nice picture.

Sorry this post it a little late - things have been busy! But on October 25th - Emma turned 11 months old. Hard to believe that next month she will be celebrating her first birthday already.

Emma is becoming a pro at walking. She loves to explore the house and find new spots to play. She climbed up 5 stairs the other day. Emma says "Ga" for Gabby - and pretty much every other dog she sees. She's doing great in school and has made lots of new friends.

We took some pictures to celebrate her turning 11 months old - but it was after bath time and she wasn't thrilled with the whole idea. Here are a few of them.

Believe it or not Emma decided that she would like to be vertical! She has taken a few steps here and there for about a week now. She's getting up the courage to try longer distances and she's getting better at it. In addition to walking, she's also blowing kisses! I uploaded some videos on her YouTube page. 10 Months Old...

Emma is 10 months old today. I know each month I say something along the lines of how I can't believe how quickly time has gone by - but seriously- enough is enough! Emma is growing up so quickly I can't believe how much she has changed in the last few weeks. She is so confident with her cruising around. She is even taking some risks and lunging for furniture or Gabby or Bryan and I when we practice walking. She is clapping and dancing more and more, especially when she sees her friend Elmo! And the other day she is showed us how big she is - which I have been trying to capture on film but she is a little camera shy. For me - everything about her is just incredible and amazing. 10 months old...I close my eyes and I almost feel like I am back in the hospital holding her for the very first time.

So Emma yesterday for the first time stood up all by herself - she didn't have to pull herself up on any furniture or anything. I got to witness this milestone today in the park. I realize that soon she will figure out that she can take a few steps and be off!

Emma also finally is clapping - it's so cute! I'll try to get video of it soon which will be tough because as soon as you pay her any attention while she's clapping she stops.

Today Emma went in for her 9 month well visit. She was just perfect as she didn't even flinch when they tested her iron level with a heel stick. When she got the HepB shot, she cried a little but was easily distracted by my pen. She now is 29 1/4 inches long (95th percentile) and weighs 19 pounds, 3.5 ounces (65th percentile). She's getting bigger and bigger by the day!

It unbelievable to me that Emma turned nine months old today. She has grown up so quickly - and continues to change every day. She now says "ma ma" more often (I posted some videos of her saying ma ma on YouTube). She also clicks her tongue, which has been difficult to capture on video but I got one the other day while she was eating her cookie. Emma is gets around so quickly now that she is confidently crawling all over the house. Today she learned that she can crawl over to the chair, pull herself up and drag the chair across the hardwood floor. She is standing up without any assistance for a little while. And she has gotten some more teeth in lately.

We took her to the park for a picnic today. Emma just loved the swing and watching all of the little kids playing around her. We also did a little craft project with Emma tonight so Bryan and I could have some Emma art for work. We tried hand prints but that was impossible. So we just stuck with footprint art! I think Emma liked splashing in the sink the best!

Emma loves to walk around. She can cruise around the furniture but hasn't quite figured out the balance part yet. When we were in North Carolina she got to try out this toy at my uncle's house. A Tradition

Apparently it is a tradition to feed young children lemons and pickles in my family. While we were down in North Carolina, Grandma figured it would be a good time as any to give Emma a lemon - and squeeze some lemon juice into her mouth. And of course we got it on video!

Emma's First Vacation

On August 1st at 3 am we left for our first family vacation down in North Topsail Beach, NC. Meeting us down there was Grandma and Grandpa and Auntie Liz and Kevin. Uncle Dan and Ashely came down the second week. We stayed in a beachfront house that had great views of the ocean - we saw dolphins swim past the house several mornings. Emma went to the beach for the first time - swam in the ocean. On one of our last days there Emma got clobbered by one wave and she handled it like a pro - she smiled and wanted to kick some more! Emma also spent a lot of time swimming in the pool that the community of homes shared. We also went out to Bald Head Island on my uncle's boat. Emma was not a fan of having to wear a life jacket while on the boat but she had a good time swimming in the ocean and riding around on golf carts! It was a great vacation! While we were at the birthday party - Emma decided to show us her next trick which was sitting up from laying down on her back. This new trick has made diaper changing just a little more difficult. We're In Trouble..

There have been many times in the last few months when I thought Emma might want to crawl. However she hated being on her belly and loved to stand up, so I gave up on the idea of crawling and thought that she might just go right to cruising around and then eventually walking. Well Emma does still love to stand and cruise around, but today she decided that she would like to crawl. Luckily the video camera was close by and I was able to capture this milestone! Granted it's not the smoothest crawling motion but she has the idea. And considering that she is quite the determined little girl, with additional practice I am sure she will be moving all over the house soon! What is funny to me is that she decided it was worth crawling to a tag! I could have sworn she would have crawled to get to Gabby - who would think that she wanted to eat a tag!

Emma Claire at 8 months old

Hard to believe it but today Emma turned 8 months old. She has changed a lot recently. Her bottom teeth are clearly in as you can see in one of the pictures below. Her top teeth are still coming in, with the left one much further down. I am sure it won't be long until she shows them off in pictures too!

Emma continues to roll around - enjoying her freedom to get to where she'd like to be. She now can sit herself up from her being on her belly. She also can pull herself up and then cruise around a little. She is still working on her balance and being steady. Emma really loves to stand and try to walk around, she especially when she is trying to get to Gabby. Emma truly loves Gabby - she looks for her all the time and loves petting her.

She is very good at feeding herself and we continue to give her new foods. Today she tried nectarines for the first time!

Emma also is working on waving. If you check out her videos on YouTube you'll see her waving to Gabby. She also says dada as you can see in her videos. We're still working on getting her to say mama.

We also recently got her to sleep in her crib throughout the night. It's so sad to see her sometimes in the crib - especially when she is sitting down holding onto the rails like she is a prisoner! Or when she is sleeping folded in half like she just got tired of crying and then just folded over.

She continues to amaze me every day. I am incredibly lucky to be her mother! I love watching her grow and investigate the world around her.

As I was checking out the first top tooth on the left, I noticed a small white spot on the right - and there it is, Emma's second top tooth. There's still not much there - just these white spots of teeth. It will be so strange to see her smile with four teeth - it is already strange to see those two little bottom teeth.

Today I noticed that Emma has another tooth coming in! It's the top middle tooth on her left side. It just might be why she had the crankiest day ever yesterday. It must have really been bothering her for a while, but it has finally pushed itself through. 3 down, 17 more to go (I think?)!!

Emma has been so close to rolling from her back to her belly but she could never figure out how to get her arm out from underneath her. Well yesterday she got that arm out and rolled over from her back to belly! I couldn't believe it. And of course I didn't have the video camera. I will try to get some video of her rolling soon.

Who could believe that Emma is already 7 months old? I don't know where the time went - it truly feels like we were driving to the hospital only yesterday. Emma is just growing so quickly. She loves to jump in her jumperoo - when she is bouncing in it, the whole thing gets rocking. Emma also is perfecting her razzing - and it now includes her tongue, which has increased the amount of drool that comes flying out.

Her bottom two middle teeth are in and the top two seem like they are about to come through any day. These top teeth are bothering her more than the bottom ones did. Emma laughs all the time, especially at Gabby and Bryan.

Emma has also expanded her big girl food repertoire. She has gotten through all the veggies and appears to really like squash and sweet potatoes the best. The fruits have been a little more challenging - we started with bananas, which she didn't seem to like. Applesauce was a little bit better. It seems that when they are heated up she likes them more. Emma has also chewed on pizza crust, some of those Gerber puffs, real bananas and some bread. I actually cried when we gave her pizza crust - my little baby is not so little anymore!

Today we took her outside to play in her splash pool - and of course took some pictures and videos. The videos are going to be on Emma's YouTube page - look for the link on the side of the blog. And because I think every picture of Emma is so cute, I have posted a ton!

Emma went to the doctor today for her 6 month check up. Once again she was an all-star and Mommy cried! Those darn shots get me every time. She loved playing with the paper on the table - crinkling it up and kicking it around.

She now weighs 16 pounds 11 ounces and is 27 inches long. I couldn't believe her weight - if you would have asked me to estimate her weight I would have said close to 20 pounds!! She is a hefty 16 pound baby girl!

We got the go ahead on starting veggies, which we will do tomorrow. That should be interesting!

Today May 25th - Emma turned 6 months old. She has changed so much in the recent weeks. She sits up all by herself. She can bend down to pick up toys and sit right back up. She has improved on her throwing skills - as she loves to pick up toys and toss them or just bang them on the nearest object - sometimes this includes her head!

She has gotten her first tooth and it seems like the other bottom tooth is coming in also. In addition, she had been playing with her top gums - a sign that the top teeth are coming in perhaps!

Her latest thing is making razzberries - she has been working on it for a while - but tonight she perfected it!

Emma had her first sleepover without Bryan or I this weekend. Bryan took me to Boston on Saturday and Emma spent the day/night with Grandma and Grandpa. All reports were good - it seems that it was harder on me than her! This weekend Emma also went swimming for the first time. She loved it! Bryan inflated her swim toy - she put on her bathing suit - which barely fit over her chunky thighs. And she swam in Grandma and Grandpa's pool for a while.

I can't believe that Emma is already half way to her 1st birthday. I remember bringing her home like it just happened yesterday.

Another First...

Today Emma got her very first tooth! I could hardly believe that my little baby girl had gotten a tooth - but sure enough there was the beginning of her first pearly white. No wonder she hasn't been sleeping so great, drooling all the time and biting down on her fingers. It will be so weird to see Emma smile with teeth!

In addition to her new tooth - Emma has changed a lot in the last month - the last week. She is usually a pretty happy baby - she giggles, laughs and smiles all the time! She has a very good sense of humor. And I think she has spoken her first word - it's a very soft "hiiii". She says it to Gabby, to little children at Bryan's softball game and to people walking by in the mall. It's so cute - I will try to get it on video! And I promise more pictures soon!

On Sat April 25th Emma turned 5 months old. Bryan and I can hardly believe that she is already so big. She is getting cuter and cuter by the day. We've started giving her cereal twice a day - for breakfast and dinner. She seems to enjoy it - although she really looks forward to sucking the water out of the paper towel at the end of the meal. I gave her a sippy cup the other day just to see what she would do with it - and sure enough the spout went right in her mouth. The other day I gave her some pear juice - which she is not a fan of - in the sippy cup and she did a good job. Here are some pictures taken on her 5 month birthday and some recent videos.

Emma is such a tease! After her amazing sleeping 10 hours straight - granted strapped into her car seat - she was up all night the next night. And last night she was up every two hours. Oh well - perhaps soon she will cut us a break and start those 3-5 hour stretches again!

Last night Emma slept for 10 hours without waking up. This morning when I got up I could not believe it - I made Bryan go in and check on her to make sure she was still with us. The best part - she was sleeping in her car seat all buckled in - and the car seat was in the crib. She had fallen asleep on the way home from the diner. Incredibly I am more tired today then ever before - maybe I am just not used to uninterrupted sleep. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a repeat performance!

Emma has been working up towards a full blown laugh for a few weeks now - little giggles here and there. But today while trying to get her to eat - when she really wanted to play - after the Phillies game in the car, she laughed this hearty little laugh. It was so adorable! I hope she continues to laugh like that and hopefully next time we will get it on tape.

I also have been playing high five with her - she has been really interested in touching hands and faces these days. And when I show her my hand and say high five - she puts her hand up to meet mine. So cute!

I haven't updated the blog in a while - things got hectic right after Emma turned 4 months old. Emma is doing well - growing bigger and bigger by the day. She has almost mastered putting her pacifier in her mouth on her own, which is fantastic. She practices a lot! However she hasn't figured out that she can use this skill at night as well. Her sleeping has reversed a little - she is getting up more during the night. It's not surprising to me - things have changed with me going back to work and we took the bumper off the crib - so now there's a whole new world to explore at night.

Going back to work wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be. My students were happy to have me back, which helps - I was worried they would like the long term sub more than me. Bryan gave me a beautiful frame with a picture of Emma in it for my birthday. I keep it on my desk and look at it all day. I drive like crazy to get home to Emma. Going back to work has helped me appreciate the time I do have with Emma - even those late night feedings.

On Thursday March 26th - Emma went to her first Philadelphia Flyers game. The Flyers lost - but she was an all-star. On April 4th she went to her first Philadelphia Phillies game - it was cool and windy and the Phillies lost.

Emma had a great Easter weekend - filled with family and lots of gifts from the Easter bunny. Thankfully I couldn't decide on which Easter outfits to get her - because she went through all of them that weekend. Lots of poopie diapers!

And finally - today April 14th - Emma got her first taste of rice cereal. I know - I said that we were going to wait until she was 6 months old. But she was showing all of the classic signs of being ready for cereal. And she was waking up more frequently at night - which is when the pediatrician said we should start cereal. I was prepared for the cereal to be all over the place - but she actually did a great job - as most of it did end up in her mouth! What a huge milestone! My little girl is getting big too fast!

Holy cow - Emma is four months old today! I can hardly believe she is already four months old. It doesn't seem that long ago I was in the hospital getting ready for the c-section. It is incredible how time flies - next week I will be back at work, which I am very sad about. However, I am very thankful that I have had these four months off - I have been able to bond with Emma and enjoy every moment with her.

Serious Emma

Emma went to the doctor's today for her four month checkup. She is doing great - and handled the 4 shots like a pro! She now is 26 inches long (in the 95th percentile) and weighs 14 pounds 2.5 ounces (in the 75th percentile). She showed off her new trick the entire time - grabbing for her feet! As you can see, she clearly has discovered that she has some more body parts that can fit in her mouth!
On Sunday March 22, 2009 Emma was baptized at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Warminster. She was the most beautiful baby there - if I do say so myself! She was a little fussy but loved the water part! Emma loved her dress - especially eating her dress! Hard To Believe..

It's hard to believe that a year ago Thursday 3/12 - I discovered that I was pregnant with Emma. And boy have our lives changed so much since that March 12, 2008. I remember how excited I was that I was pregnant - and Bryan was away on a business trip in Arizona - so I had to wait a few days to tell anyone. I was bursting at the seams - I wanted to shout it out from the top of a mountain!

I loved being pregnant! And what a pay off at the end - a beautiful baby girl! Just what I had been hoping for.

Two nights ago I had a craving for some Starbucks Hot Chocolate. So I left Emma sitting comfortably with her Daddy and I went to get some hot chocolate. When I got home, she was sitting on his lap, watching TV- probably hockey - she loves hockey! And when she saw me, she started cooing- or I call it talking. It was so adorable - it's like she was saying "Hi Mommy! I missed you!". I love that she can recognize me from across the room and smile - the best feeling in the whole wide world washes over me.

My Talkative Little Girl

Emma is talking to just about everyone and everything these days. On Sunday Feb 22nd Emma did the cutest thing yet. I was nursing her right before her bedtime. She was gulping away and then all of a sudden she stopped nursing - looked up at me and started talking. Then she went back to nursing. A few gulps later she was back to talking to me. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen. She just melts my heart!

Today we went to look at daycare facilities. I was not looking forward to this day because I just don't want to have to put her in daycare. We found one that we liked - I left feeling like if I have to put my daughter in daycare this would be the best place. There was one place that as soon as we walked in I knew it wasn't going to work - it was disgusting in there.

Tonight Emma was playing with her balloon with Grandma and all of a sudden she grabbed the balloon with both hands and pulled it towards her. She is really getting good at grabbing things. Every time I look at her I can't believe my Emma is so big and doing all of these things. She has grown up so quickly!

Changing So Quickly!

Emma is growing up way too quickly. She is talking to almost everything these days. Recently Bryan and I noticed that she is talking to inanimate objects such as the Mylar balloons from Grandma's birthday, the light up sun on her playmat and the cows and sheep from her night time projector. It's so cute to listen to her chatting these things up. It appears we might have quite the gabber on our hands - I wonder where she got that from :)

Bryan pointed out to me that Emma makes cute noises after she sneezes now. Which I listened for today and have to agree - sometimes she sighs or coos. She just gets cuter and cuter by the minute!

Emma also is starting to grab for things. You have to watch out when you hold her because she will grab your hair, necklace, shirt, etc. It's amazing to watch her trying to figure out how to get a hold of something. She moves her hand slowly towards the object - and no longer are her hands always in a fist. I absolutely love watching her trying to figure these things out - it's incredible to watch her learning. But it must be so frustrating for her when she can't quite get things done.

We went up to Connecticut this weekend for Grandma's birthday. Aunt Liz and Kevin were also in town to spend some time with Emma. And of course we took some pictures and videos to mark the occasion. It appears that Emma loves to have a balloon tied around her leg - she just goes crazy kicking, punching, talking and trying to lick the balloon. Very cute!

It's Emma 11th week birthday - perhaps a lesser celebrated birthday but nonetheless still important. There are times I can't believe that already 11 weeks have gone by and then there are other times where it seems like Emma has been with us for a lifetime already! She is getting bigger and bigger by the day. She is still working on getting her entire fist in her mouth! I think she will have that figured out any day now.

Bryan built Emma her Rainforest Jumperoo this past weekend - while she can't touch the ground quite yet, she seems like she enjoys it. Today I put a box under her feet, per Grandma's suggestion - and she is getting the hang of it. Soon enough she will be bouncing in there like crazy! We took some pictures and videos - she was pretty tired by this point in the day so the bouncing was a little less. She also was really into watching Gabby playing with Bryan in the background.

Before I was a Mom,

I never tripped over toys

or forgot words to a lullaby.

my plants were poisonous.

I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,

I had never been puked on.

Pooped on.

Chewed on.

Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind

and my thoughts.

I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,

I never held down a screaming child

so doctors could do tests.

Or give shots.

I never looked into teary eyes and cried.

I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.

I never sat up late hours at night

watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,

I never held a sleeping baby just because

I didn't want to put her down.

I never felt my heart break into a million pieces

when I couldn't stop the hurt.

I never knew that something so small

could affect my life so much.

I never knew that I could love someone so much.

I never knew I would love being a Mom.

I Can't Believe It

If Grandma wasn't also a witness to this moment in Emma's life - I almost wouldn't believe it. For weeks now I have been making funny faces at Emma - sticking out my tongue, making that razz noise with my tongue. And now Emma will imitate me - not the razz yet but she does stick out her tongue like I do. Sure she is sticking out her tongue a lot these days to lick everything in sight - but this is different. She clearly is imitating and it's incredible! I know that this could fall under the category of a mom always seeing things and believing that their baby is doing things - when they may actually not be - but this is different and now I have witnesses!

Some Thoughts

Every night I sit with my daughter in her nursery gliding and nursing and I always find myself amazed by the beautiful little girl. It still is incredible - the whole thing - that she lived inside me and with everything that could have gone wrong - here she is just perfect.

Here are things that I just love about being her mother:
1. I love the morning - when she wakes up and sees me standing at her crib - it takes her a few minutes to realize it's me - when she does she gives me a huge smile.
2. I love when we come downstairs after getting dressed for the day - she looks around the house with these huge open eyes - looking around like she has never seen this place before - every day! I am convinced she sees a little more and a little clearer every day - that's why she is so surprised.
3. I love when I am nursing her and she rubs my side. It's like she is saying "Thank you ma ma for this delicious milk."
4. I love that I can make her smile with the simplest things - like passing gas noises!
5. I love that no matter how upset she is - as soon as I hold her - she begins to calm down. To be honest this is a little bit of a pain - but it does make me feel special.
6. I love watching her try to figure things out - like when she first rolled from tummy to back. And now when she is trying to figure out how to put her fingers in her mouth and keep them there. It's incredible to watch her try over and over again all the while licking her hand as it passes by.

This list could go on forever - and as I think of more, I will add them. It is safe to say that I am just head over heels in love with this little girl.

It's Not A Fluke...

Bryan and I really like to watch Emma show off her new trick - we've taken some more videos and photos. And to satisfy Bryan - I put Emma flat on her belly - she pulled in her arms and pushed up all by herself. I am just so happy that I didn't miss this milestone and we've captured it on film. As you can see by the last video - she was done rolling over!

Today, Emma demonstrated a new move on her play mat. We weren't able to capture it the first time, but we grabbed a camera so that she could try it again. It may not be a "true" roll because she started from her elbows, but it is good enough for me! You can hear my jubilation in the background. We think that Emma is well on her way to rolling around the house in the near future. We'll post some more videos soon now that we know that Blogger only likes short clips, but Emma really tired herself out after today's rolling session.

The Doctor's Appointment

Today Emma went to the doctor's for her 2 month checkup. I have been anticipating this doctor's visit since the last as Emma was going to receive 5 vaccinations today - 4 shots and 1 oral. It was terrible watching her receive her 1 vaccination last time - so I was not looking forward to this experience.

Good news - Emma is perfect, which I already knew! She now weighs 11 pounds, 0.5 ounces. She gave a big smile to the nurse while she was on the scale. She measures 22.5 inches - the nurses and doctors seem to think that they were not very accurate in measuring her at the hospital, which bothers me a lot. I really am annoyed that we don't know how long she really was at birth. Oh well. As long as she is a big healthy baby - that's all that matters!

Emma's Two Month Birthday

Today Emma celebrated her two month birthday. It's hard to believe that it has been two months already. It seems like it was just the other day we were walking into the hospital for the c-section. And at the same time, it seems like it has been so much longer than two months.

Emma has changed quite a bit in her first two months of life - she is now smiling all the time, finding her fingers and hand to lick (well she will lick almost anything it seems!), turning on her side and now talking. She is making all kinds of new sounds and tells all sorts of stories!

Sleeping has been getting better, for the most part, as she is sleeping the entire night in her crib and is good for at least two hours - some nights she gives Mommy a present by sleeping for three hours in between feedings - and even better we get a four or five hour stretch.

We are just so in love with our little girl and we just can't get enough. It's still weird to hear myself call Emma "my daughter".

Gabby celebrated her second birthday yesterday. It is so hard to believe that Gabby is already 2 years old! It seems like yesterday Bryan and I were driving out to the middle of no where to "look at her". Yeah right - Bryan had to know that there was no way we weren't coming home with a puppy! I baked her a peanut butter and carrot cake - we sang "Happy Birthday" and today she had a spa experience at PetCo.

We just can't get enough of Emma - everything about her - well maybe minus the waking up in the middle of the night! Last night while rushing into Emma's room - yup she's sleeping in her big girl crib for most of the night now - I stepped in a nice cold pile of dog puke - a lovely combo of Iams kibbles and rawhide bones. It was just super!

It's hard to believe that little Emma is almost two months old - time flies! She has continued to amaze me - with her coy smile, the fact that her gaze will follow people around the room...This past week while Grandma was visiting, Emma also amazed us by turning on her side - on Wednesday Jan 14th. She did it a few times - but soon began to cry because she had her arm stuck! I suppose that rolling onto her belly will happen any day now.

In addition to turning on her side, she also seems to be working on putting her hand in her mouth. She did this at birth - but now it looks like she will be nursing on her hand soon. Seriously, this little girl needs to slow down - she is growing up too fast, which is what I was thinking while I was packing away her newborn clothes!

Emma's Doctor Visit

Today Emma went to the doctor's office for her 1 month check up - yes it is late but that's what happens when your 1 month birthday is Christmas day and Mommy waits to make the appointment. Emma was an all-star - and is in perfect health - minus the small diaper rash she has just developed. Emma now weighs 10 pounds 13.5 ounces! At her last visit, 6 days after she was born, she weighed 8 pounds 1.5 ounces. She's quite the good eater - so I shouldn't be surprised!

At the end of the appointment, Emma received her second round of the Hep B vaccine. Emma was so happy naked on the table and then the nurse stuck her with the needle. I can't even describe how horrified she looked and then started screaming. I scooped her up and cuddled - and as soon as the nurse left, I started crying. It was such a horrible thing to watch! In two weeks she has to go back and get her 2 month old round of shots - which I think is 4 shots - and I think I am going to have to leave the room. Daddy will have to take that one!

Today Emma took a spin in the Baby Bjorn. We did some chores around the house and of course took some pictures! She seemed to enjoy vacuuming the most. And then she appeared to be exhausted after the chores...

Emma is growing up way too fast! She has recently begun to smile back at us - she makes these huge toungy smiles - it is so cute! And when I imitate her noises, she tries to respond - you can tell that she is trying to say something - probably along the lines of "hey weird face making lady, give me some more milk!" I keep telling Emma - all she has to do is smile a few times a day at me and all is forgiven - even those horrible nights we've been having. I am going to attempt to video tape her smiling - if I am able to capture the moment, I will be sure to post!

In addition to smiling, Emma has been working on figuring out what her hands can do. She grasps things now - like my shirt or her bib. It's so nice because now she is not always a cute baby with clenched fists.

Nope! It was a fluke. And on top of it all - I think Emma may have reflux, which has turned my pleasant, happy little girl into a sometimes fussy gal. We have a doctor's appointment on Monday - so we shall see!

Sleeping Through The Night...Maybe?

Emma has been flirting with sleeping through the night the last few days. She was good for about a four hour stretch between 1 am and 5 am. And I was beginning to look forward to those four hours of sleep. And then yesterday Miss Emma had a little bit of a problem. She would not nap during the day - she was eating about every hour - and fussing a lot - which is actually unusual for her. She is normally a very happy baby. I just knew that it was going to be a long night - with me up all night long with her. So I asked Bryan to be with her for a little while so I could just try to sleep even if it was for 10 minutes.

Bryan came back with Emma around 11:30 pm - and she was still a mess. I went into her room and we rocked on the glider. I tried to feed her again - and then there it was - a giant explosion in her diaper. She must have been uncomfortable all evening and that was why she was so fussy. The poor little girl! As soon as she was done - she was back to her normal self. She went to sleep in her pack and play - woke up around 1:30am ate and went back to sleep until about 7:30ish. I couldn't believe she slept for almost 6 hours! I would be thrilled if she kept this up but I am wise enough to know that as soon as it seems like she has a schedule - she will change again.

Emma's First Christmas and More..

Emma celebrated a lot of milestones this past week - not only her first Christmas - but also her four week birthday - and turned 1 month old on Christmas day. We can't believe that she is already a month old - time flies! She is getting bigger and bigger every day. I can't wait until we go to the doctor's next month so we can find out how much she weighs.

We took some pictures while we were at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Grandma had these mittens hanging from her mantle - and they looked like they'd be a perfect fit for Emma.

Emma has learned that her hands are good for something...these were taken today (Dec. 29th) after a bath - which explains the sad face - Emma still does not enjoy the bath very much!!

Emma also got to meet her Aunt Megan who is home from Austin for the holidays.

Believe it or not - today Emma is three weeks old. It's hard to believe that three weeks ago we were in the hospital enjoying our first day with Emma. It seems like a long long time ago to be honest! Emma is doing great - we have tummy time every day during which she lifts her head and turns it from side to side. She is looking bigger and bigger every day. Nighttime is a little bit of a challenge still. Emma does not enjoy sleeping between the hours of 12 am to about 4 am, which means Mommy is up with her trying to encourage her to sleep. But something magical kicks in around 3:30 - 4 am - Emma decides to sleep and is good until about 7ish.

We are looking forward to her first Christmas next week. And the Marple Newtown Holiday Party on Monday - Emma will make her first trip to the high school! Today Emma also experienced her first accumulating snow fall. We bundled Emma up and took her outside to enjoy the snowfall.
We also tried on Emma's Christmas Outfit Grandma got for her from Janie and Jack today - and of course - we took some more pictures. A little elf some how sneaked into the photo shoot!
